We recently had Marie with us for a school internship and one of her tasks was to write up a guest blog post! We loved having her here and especially loved what she wrote! Read more to find out her tips on How to Feel Good Every Day!
Move Your Body
Being active is a great boost for your mood and your health! I love going for a walk or hiking – both alone and with friends – because it’s a good way to be active and enjoy some fresh air! You can also play any of your favorite sports, whether it’s tennis, yoga, swimming, or dancing, try to move your body every day!
Soak Up the Sun
There are so many health benefits from sunshine – the biggest being the body’s natural response of Vitamin D production. You’ll not only benefit physically but it’s been proven that sunlight improves your mood. On the next beautiful, sunny day, put on your favorite sunscreen and head outdoors for lunch or to read your favorite book!
Make Sleep a Priority
We all love to sleep but sometimes it can be hard to get enough of it. Our bodies rely on sleep to recover and reset. Sleeping too little can not only make you feel physically tired, but it can affect you mentally, by not allowing you to concentrate throughout the day. It can even weaken your immune system, causing you to get sick easier. It’s recommended you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep a night – so be sure to get an adequate amount of ZZZ’s!
Eat Healthy Foods
Being health conscious doesn’t just mean exercising – we also have to pay attention to what we put in our bodies. Eating healthy is important to our health and eating fruits and vegetables regularly will help our bodies absorb the nutrients we need. Something you may want to consider is having at least one meal a week that is fully vegan!
Do Something Nice for Someone Else
Ever heard the expression ‘Pay it Forward’? It’s something that has been around for quite some time and it means if someone does a good deed for you, you pay it forward by doing a good deed for someone else. Doing selfless acts of kindness can not only make the world around you a happier place, but it can greatly improve your own mood!
You are the most important person in your life and the way you speak to yourself matters! Negative thoughts breed negative actions so to combat that we recommend reading affirmations or telling yourself what a ‘smart, amazing, badass heroine’ you are each day will help you turn anxiety and negativity into happiness and confidence!
Write Down 3 Things You're Grateful For
If you focus on what you have instead of what you don’t, you’ll be able to see the positive thing in life rather than the negative. One concept we love is, waking up everyday with a “Get To” attitude instead of a “Have To” attitude - I get to go to work, I get to be busy. Another great way to recognize the blessings in your life is to write 3 things you’re grateful for every day. They can be big or small – it’s up to you!
Smile and Laugh
We’ve all heard it before – it takes far less muscles to smile than to frown – and it’s totally true! Smiling and laughing is contagious and can influence the people around you. If you’re feeling down, make plans to hang out with positive people that make you happy, watch a funny movie, or read a hilarious book. You’re guaranteed to feel better after you get some hearty laughs in!
One of the easiest ways to reduce stress and improve your mood, is to meditate. It can take as little as 10 minutes a day to start seeing and feeling a change. Simply sit or lay down in a quiet, peaceful space in your home and clear your head. A great technique is to start at the top of your head and work your way down to your toes – giving thought to each part of your body. It will take practice to achieve something that sounds so simple but the more you do it, the easier it will be to let go of the daily stresses of your life and ultimately calm your mind!
Don’t Hold Grudges
Live and let go! Don’t get caught up on grudges because life is short and they can cause unnecessary damage to relationships which you may later regret. Another way to look at a situation is to have the mentality that you don’t want to cause any emotional harm or negativity to another person. If that means losing an argument or forgiving someone, you’ll be the better person for it!
