You all know the feeling of being super stressed, just needing a little time out from the world and wearing sneakers for weeks because you don't even want to look at the state of your current pedicure? Yeah, we do too.
It's important to refuel once in a while, not only your body but your mind, too! Don't feel bad for taking some time for yourself once in a while, sometimes it's exactly what we need to gain some new motivation for our every day life. And it will give your self confidence a boost when you're feeling your best, rested and pampered self, promise!
That's why we wanted to share our top tips for a perfect spa day at home with you today!
It can be easy to get caught up in things like grocery shopping or running other necessary errands (laundry, anyone?), so you should schedule your spa day in your calendar just like any other appointment and make sure to get all your important errands done before, so you don't feel guilty putting your feet up.
So after you've set a day on which you know you won't be disturbed or you know you can have a few hours for yourself, start setting the mood and turn your home into a little oasis for yourself! You can stick to your bathroom or make your whole home feel spa like, but we definitely recommend some candles - who doesn't enjoy a good scented candle? And maybe this is the perfect opportunity to finally burn that expensive candle you were gifted last Christmas, which has so far always been to precious to crack open? Let us answer that for you with a yes.
If you like some background noise, put on your favorite music (how about that new Ed Sheeran album?) or if you fancy, even some Spa Tunes, there are quite a few on YouTube that go on for hours! Speaking of YouTube, of course you can just put on you're favorite Beauty Guru's new video too!
Lucky enough to have a bath tub? Obviously get in there and have a good soak! Put in some nice bath oils, a bath bomb (LUSH makes some of the best in our opinion!) or even put in some epsom salts to relieve any aches. Get your latest book out or grab a magazine and relax for a while. You could even prop up your laptop on a stool next to your tub or browse your Instagram feed on your phone, but having electrical equipment near water really isn't the greatest idea and can get messy, to say the least. Reading something is far more relaxing and less dangerous.
Baths are not your thing or you don't have a tub? A nice long hot shower does the trick too! You can put a deep conditioner in your hair and let it sit while you use a scrub all over your body, which you never get around to doing if you're getting ready for work in the morning - right? Rituals has an amazing sugar scrub, but you could easily make your own out of ingredients you definitely have in your pantry!
Mix together some brown sugar, olive oil and honey in equal parts and create a natural and simple, yet very effective scrub! Don't make too much, because it probably won't last quite as long as a store bought one. Homemade scrubs are best enjoyed right away!
Another great thing to do is to put on a face mask, you can either put it on while you soak in the bath (don't forget to set yourself an alarm to take it off - time passes much quicker when you're engrossed in a good read enjoying the bubbles!) or you can put the mask on while you're doing something else, like your mani/pedi!
When you've taken off your face mask, don't forget to give your lips some TLC too and scrub them down with a lip scrub to remove any dead skin and make them silky smooth! Again, LUSH does a great one, but you can also mix a teaspoon of brown sugar with a teaspoon of honey and it will do the trick - and taste great too!
Let's get to the part that will probably make you feel the most confident about yourself, a good old mani/pedi!
To start out your pedi, take off any old nail polish that's still on your toenails, cut them and shape them with a file. Then put a good amount of cuticle oil on them and massage it in. If you plan on having a bath, you can do all this before you get in there. If you're not taking one, prepare yourself a foot soak with some warm water and add some bath oil, essential oil and if you want to, some lemon juice to help with any staining of your nails. Let the cuticle oil you have previously put on your nails sit for 10 minutes and then put your feet into the soak. Leave them in there for 10 minutes, then take them out and push back your now soft cuticles with an orange wood stick or cuticle pusher. put on another layer of cuticle oil and put your feet back in the water for another 10 minutes. When you take them out, dry them of and put on some nice thick cream and slip into your favorite fluffy socks!
For your mani, prepare with similar steps like for your pedi (file, shape, put on some cuticle oil and push cuticles back) and then chose your favorite color to paint them!
