Glamorous and well kept nails are a staple feature in completing a person’s overall look.
Whether you opt for simplistic, fresh nudes that are effortless with any outfit or, a design that is bold and eye catching that pairs well with an evening out or to match with a downplayed attire. Nails always stand out.
However, if you have noticed nail art and design like no other which may get you thinking that someone has spent an entire morning in the beauty salon, then you’re probably looking at a set of nail decals.
For those who are unfamiliar with nail decals, they are a method of nail prints and graphics which slide from a paper base when soaked in water for a matter of seconds. The result is that you are left with a plastic material with your pattern on which applies to your nail when you firmly press down on it. The results are gorgeous, eye-catching and long-lasting.
If in the past you have been put off by intricate nail designs because you feel they may be too fiddly to apply, fear not, from one novice to another I am going to share with you my step by step guide on applying decals so you are confident to go and try these out for yourself!
Choose your favourite nail decal design and have ready a nail varnish colour you like which will compliment your design choice. This is because you will be painting your nails first and the pattern will be applied over the top so you will be able to see the nail varnish colour underneath. In this instance I chose Heroine’s own Peek-a-Blue with a marble effect decal. Also, have a bowl of water at the ready.
Once you have painted your nails (I only applied one coat due to the drying time but this is optional) I cut my decals out, cutting between the spaces between each nail design so I was left with 10 squares.
Taking a square for your nail, soak the decal in your bowl of water for around 4 seconds. Once this is done you will be able to slide the decal from the paper base where you will be left with your design on the plastic.
Steadily, place the design on to your nail and firmly press the decal down for around 20 seconds, making it sure it is applied properly without the danger of it sliding around afterwards.
Once you are confident the decal is applied firmly, take a pair of nail scissors and cut off the excess decal so you can repeat this action for the rest of your nails with ease.
When you have completed applying the decals to the rest of your nails, the final action is to get rid of the excess decal around the sides and bottoms of your nails. To do this, I used a cotton bud with a very small amount of nail polish remover to gently wipe away the design on my skin. This should be done extra carefully to avoid damaging the design. Making sure your new pair of nails are dry and firmly placed on, apply a clear base coat over the top for that extra shine and finish.
The complete look? A set of nails you will cherish and undoubtably receive numerous compliments for. All with a simple step by step guide. Enjoy!
