heroine.nyc nail polish ingredients
It's important to us to provide a product that is safe for you to use and that we can stand behind! Therefore we took special care when creating our polishes, that they don't contain toxic ingredients that affect your health. Of course nail polish can't be made without any chemical ingredients, but we wanted to make sure that the ones that are known to be bad for you were not in our polish.
What exactly does 3-free etc. mean?
You have probably heard of 3-free or even 5-free nail polishes. 3-free means that the nail polish does not contain the three ingredients of the 'toxic trio', which are Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP. 5-free means that in addition to these three ingredients, the polish does also not contain any formaldehyde resin or camphor.
When you hear about 7-free and 9-free polishes, this means that the nail polish contains even less toxic ingredients. However, it is often also used as a marketing claim, because it sounds good to the customer.
We want to break it down for you and let you know what is definitely not in our polishes and that they are very safe to use for everyone!
These are the ingredients we chose to eliminate from our formula and why it's important to stay clear of these:
Repeated or prolonged exposure to toluene can result in decreased brain functionality, neurological damage, respiratory problems, nausea, and hearing loss and is highly dangerous for pregnant women, as it can cause abnormal fetal development!
DBP is short for Dibutyl Phthalate, and alongside many other bad effects can impair fetal development in pregnant women, cause organ damage and early onset menopause - no thanks!!
Camphor can cause allergic reactions and severe skin irritations, along with headaches, nausea and dizziness
It is a known allergen, possible carcinogen and a central nervous system depressant. It can cause skin, eye, nose and throat irritation alongside many other harmful effects.
This chemical has already been banned from personal care products in the EU, because of its antibiotic properties and concerns over its antibiotic resistance.
Also known as THPH, it has been linked to infertility, abnormal fetal development, hormonal imbalances and several types of cancer.
Research has linked parabens in beauty products with breast cancer in women - definitely an ingredient to avoid!
Also, none of our products or their ingredients are tested on animals or contain any animal derived ingredients, which has been certified by PETA as well as The Leaping Bunny Program, so we are a cruelty free and vegan brand too, which we are very proud of!
